Miniature horses come in a "rainbow" of colors! The basic colors are Black and Red with all others colors being a modification of those colors with or with out pattern markings. The patterns make for some of the most beautiful variations . I will try and have pictures of most of these colors and markings below. Colors Black- Bay- Seal Brown- Silver Bay-Chestnut-Sorrel-Grey-Silver-Palomino-Buckskin- Perlino-Cremello-Smoky Black-Chamapgne-Dun- Blue Roan- Red Roan -Bay Roan Some Patterns Pinto- Tobiano, Overo,Tovero, Sabino, Splash White Overo Appoloosa- Blanket, Snowcap,Varnish,Few Spot, Leopard, Snowflake The we have the mixed patterns such as the"pintaloosa" which is having both the Pinto and Appaloosa pattern exhibited. Markings Markings are the typical white coloring seen on solid and patterned horses. White "socks" can be very extensive or just a small amount of white on on a foot, "Coronet" a bit larger "pasterm" white a "Sock" or a"Stocking" . the facial marking can be a "Star", "Stripe","Snip", "Blaze"," Bald Face" , "Lip". These can come in any combination, some being seem most often with certain other patterns Color Genetics The Study of color genetics is facinating! I would suggest to anyone interested in breeding to take some time to learn a bit about color. There is a lot of information available on the internet for beginners as well as those wanting a more in depth understanding of color, patterns and the many modifiers involved.

There are a lot of Minis that carry genes for multiple color patterns. Some of these patterns are fairly obvious and others are only known through genetic testing. These horses make the study of Equine genetics fun! Just think of all the combinations! |

Classic Champagne Tovero |
| Near Leopard refers to the dark on his legs and head compared to a Leopard Appy, You can see in the picture his white feet and he has other pinto markings not so obvious
|
This is a pretty sorrel horse with several different coat patterns. She has roaning as well as appy and sabino pinto markings. Combined patterens can make for some of the most striking coloring
|
This horse is a Sorrel with appaloosa roaning and minimal pinto markings. Her pinto markings are on her tail and lower legs. Her appy markings should be more evident with age and after she sheds out
|
Classic Champagne means he is on a black base, and he not only has the splash overo gene but he is also homozygous for tobiano. Toveo refers to carrying both the Tobiano and Overo pinto genes

| Leg markings can be as small as a spot on the heel or cover the entire leg. The high stockings combined with a white face ,sometimes refered to as "chrome", can be a very striking look. Some leg markings are often seen in conjunction with particular coat patterns |
